Since 1986, The Sharing Center has worked to prevent homelessness in Seminole County, Florida by assisting low-income families with basic and necessary needs during financial emergencies caused by job loss and health problems.
The Sharing Center is purchasing the plaza it occupies in Longwood as a permanent home and endowment for future needs of Seminole County’s working poor. The plaza is being transformed into a one-stop non-profit hub where people find help with a variety of needs in one location as The Sharing Center adds additional services and welcomes other non-profits to the plaza.
The Sharing Center also operates a satellite site for food distribution and other services in Sanford to better assist more people in need in the northeast section of the county.
Special health issues are addressed by The Sharing Center through the Medical Link Program, in which clients are assisted in finding a medical home, avoiding use of the emergency room, and patients with a life-saving prescription for a drug they cannot afford get one month paid by the center and then are helped to get on a free or reduced pharmaceutical program. Our New Shoes for Children program provides new shoes, socks and underwear to children in need, and our Disabilities Caseworker assists disabled to employability. (information from their website)
